We’ve all heard that exfoliation is good for our skin. In fact, it’s recommended as an essential part of most skincare routines. But do we all know exactly why?

From porridge balls stuck to armpits and crushed carob pods rubbed into the skin, humans have always been creative when attempting to find the best deodorant to mask their natural scents.

In today’s market, the beauty industry is saturated with brands and products. There is an almost overwhelming variety of choice and brands have to seek innovative means of setting themselves apart to stand out from their competitors. This is where customised beauty comes in.

Whether it’s in the form of frozen globes or cryo masks, the latest skincare trend rising through the ranks is something called cryotherapy.
Derived from the Greek ‘cryo’, meaning cold, and ‘therapia’ (therapy or cure), the treatment involves the use of extremely cold temperatures.

For us, that means striving to create a healthier, greener, more empowered world – and by greener, we don’t just mean literally! With our Infinite Purpose we pledge to strive to protect all of our planet’s ecosystems, and that means those below the ocean as well as above!

We as a race are wonderfully varied. Our cultures and traditions are just as unique as our features and language. We celebrate and commiserate with spectacular diversity, and our rituals concerning death are no different. In this blog we look at 10 amazing ways these cultures bid farewell to their loved ones.

When someone you are close to experiences a loss, it can be horrible not knowing how to comfort them. We instinctively want to wrap our arms around our loved one: to absorb their pain and help share the burden of their suffering. Yet knowing how to do this can seem an impossible feat when we cannot fully understand what they are going through.

December, 2020

Death has never been a comfortable subject of discussion. For some, this might be because of the emotional response it triggers: talking about death means facing the topic of final, inevitable loss head on, and often this is not a topic we find easy or enjoyable

Nowadays funerals are rarely inexpensive. In their 2020 ‘Cost of Dying Report’, SunLife demonstrated how the average cost of a funeral alone in the UK amounts to £4,417. As each year passes, this average increases way above the normal rate of inflation: a prospect made all the more daunting by the fact that a death incurs many other costs, and not simply those of the funeral.

November, 2020

For those of you reading who are less familiar with our services, let us provide a quick overview.

In short, we are a sustainable funeral provider that organises eco-friendly cremations and whose founding ethos revolves around transparency, sustainability and integrity.

On the 31st January 2020 the UK left the EU with a withdrawal agreement. The agreement included things such as an agreed transition period, a financial settlement between the UK and the EU and suggestions on how to mitigate the need for checks along the Irish border. As things stand, the deadline for extending the current transition period has passed and so the period is due to conclude on 31 December 2020.

Whilst death remains the one inevitable guarantee of life, it rarely occurs precisely as expected. In fact, even for those given exact information and advance notice, death will be sure to take some a little by surprise. This is often because a death does not solely include the act of dying. Instead, a death encapsulates numerous events that must take place after the death itself: for example notifying the loved ones, a funeral, the division of estate and so on.

We as individuals are just that, highly individual. We each have specific wants and needs that are expressed and actualised throughout our daily lives. These unique preferences and desires remain with us until we die, meaning that in preparation for when we do so, we should be able to pick a funeral plan that is just as suited to our personal wishes as any of our other daily choices.

October, 2020

We know the funeral industry is populated with many providers that hope to profit from elaborate services and expensive ceremonial extras, often at the expense of the deceased’s vulnerable, surviving loved ones. At Neo Cremations on the other hand, in everything we do, from the people we hire, to the services we arrange and the charities we partner with, we ensure we are different from the rest of the industry.

Neo Cremations firmly believes that people should talk more openly about dying, death, and bereavement. We especially believe that people should start making plans for the end of life. We have put a lot of time and effort into creating our Neo Cremations Funeral Plan to be straightforward and affordable. Just like our direct cremation service, our Neo Cremations Funeral Plan is also environmentally friendly.

In our everyday lives, each choice we make leads to the release of carbon into our atmosphere. Right from the food we buy and the electricity we use, to the modes of transport we take and our disposal of waste, we create a carbon output that has an impact on the environment around us. This carbon output is known as our carbon footprint. The dictionary defines a Carbon Footprint as “the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere as a result of the activities of a particular individual, organisation or company.”

In most cases, it is difficult to think about death without feeling a little morbid. Talking about death can even be considered somewhat taboo. Death is the one indisputable event that all of humanity has in common, and yet dwelling on this reality usually brings with it a sense of discomfort or anxiety. At NEO Cremations, whilst we understand that death is rarely a welcome visitor, we do believe that it need not be considered with such foreboding.

Funerals are expensive. Whilst costs may vary depending on where you live in the UK, a 2018 report estimates that an average basic cremation costs £3,600 whilst an average basic burial costs £4,800. A further £2,100 can be added to this total to cover the cost of a remembrance ceremony. This is a large sum and it can cause undue stress during an already distressing time.

During the current coronavirus pandemic, many people have been left unsure of how to arrange a funeral for their loved ones, and of the rules on attendance. Here, we discuss how the UK’s lockdown restrictions are affecting funeral services and explore why we believe direct or “simple” cremations are the safest, most appropriate and cost-effective means of saying goodbye to a loved one.

Be it for friends, partners or relatives, below is a selection of some of our favourite Perfume Studio presents – perfect for scent enthusiasts and novices alike.

In today's market, consumers are met with a vast range of choice and it is often easier to re-order familiar favourites rather than begin exploring different options. This is especially the case where online shopping makes it possible to order replacements at the click of a button.
Yet for a beauty item which is so personal, simply reordering the same fragrances over and over does not seem to do the selection process justice.

January, 2019

This January, we look to the top 5 trends which have enabled the fragrance market to sustain its growth and value in the eye of the consumer over the last year.

Ever since our childhood days, we have been fascinated by the concept of ‘do it yourself.’
Growing up, we owned the plastic ingredients to mix and bake in plastic ovens; we concocted magic potions from water and mud and spent hours deliberating over the perfect combination of beads to string to our multi-coloured friendship bracelets.

August, 2019

We all love variety in our life. You won’t see many people opting to wear exactly the same outfit day in, day out. In fact, for many their wardrobe’s colour palette and style will change with the varying weather.
In much the same way as our wardrobe choice differs throughout the seasons, so too can our fragrance choices reflect the seasonal changes we encounter throughout the year.

For centuries, Perfume has fascinated us. It was first used as an alternative to bathing and later came to symbolise wealth and status. Ever since its significance in Egyptian religious ceremonies and dominance in Roman and Greek civilisations, Fragrance has long been considered a luxury product.

April, 2019

This month we reached a new fragrant milestone - 10,000 online fragrance orders. Feeling quite overwhelmed, we had to celebrate this milestone with the lucky person who made that magic order, Gill.
Gill is no stranger to the Perfume Studio, in fact, Gill has re-ordered her signature scent so many times - we decided that the perfect celebratory gift would be the opportunity to create another signature scent.

We remember the whiff of opium as she dusted herself before entertaining her dinner guests; we catch the sweet, animalic scent of Aldehydic (a key ingredient in Chanel No.5,) and are transported to the downy heaviness of blankets pulled over drowsy bodies as she tucked us in. For some, Lily can bring with it an overwhelming recollection of enveloping, soft arms and lightly brushed kisses.

We all release and receive four types of pheromone, the ‘Releaser Pheromone’ being responsible for sexual attraction. The small vomeronasal organ inside our nose processes these chemicals, subconsciously communicating an immediate response through the nervous system to the hypothalamus. If this response ‘releases’ an attraction, our heart rate, body temperature and breathing can increase, altering our mood and subliminally affecting our appreciation for the emitter.

The Victorians were the first to establish the tradition of expressing emotions without words. Through the art of Floriography, the exchange of flowers was used to both express and identify feelings without ever having to speak. Of course, it took no time at all for Roses to become the symbol of love and for differing shades to even symbolise varying forms of the emotion.

I had always felt a little overwhelmed by the idea of a bespoke fragrance before I joined The Perfume Studio for one of their fragrance creation events. How could one possibly know which ingredients to blend together, and in what order or portion? I might know I love the scent of Vanilla and Ginger but I certainly didn’t have much faith in my expertise at predicting how the two would layer together!

The secret underworld of scent, The Perfume Studio

October, 2018

When we find a scent we love, we choose it not just to make ourselves feel good but also to prompt a reaction from those around us. Scent is emotive. We lace ourselves before the day hoping to prompt a reaction from those who pass us in the street or cross us on the stair. We want to walk shrouded in a light mist; one which is both unforgettable and impossible to succinctly define.

There’s a reason ‘coming of age’ films are so poignant. To a lesser or greater extent, we can all relate to the awkward vulnerability and emotional minefield that were our high-school years. So too when we catch a whiff of that bygone favourite-fragrance do we find ourselves riding the wave of bittersweet nostalgia.

To find the perfect wedding fragrance, one must first walk in Nature’s garden and bathe in its ocean of scents. With an idea of your wedding bouquet, dress and possibly even partner’s fragrance in mind, begin to embrace the myriad of blends available and set about determining which best suits your desired goal.

August, 2018

Choosing your own scent can be an overwhelming process at the best of times. We set out in pursuit of the ultimate fragrance, a scent which smells entirely unique against our skin and which suits the very essence of our personality, characteristics and mood.

Aged seven, I sat atop the park’s eldest Asian elephant and swayed as she took another deliberate step. In the fading summer heat, we walked with the elephants out of their paddocks and down to the estate’s private lakes.
Sunlight filtered through the trees and all was momentarily quiet save the sighing of trunks as they rustled through the undergrowth.

Crawfish populations in the waters surrounding the Isle of Sark in the Channel Islands have experienced a surge in numbers thanks to conservation efforts, survey reveals. The study showed that, despite being fished to near extinction in local waters in the 1960s and 70s, the crustacean is making a return.
